Batman: The Brave and the Bold Screening

4 11 2010

So last night, November 2nd 2010, I was fortunate to be invited back to the Teletoon headquarters in Toronto for the preview screening of the second season of the cartoon – Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Now the beginning of the night was much like before lots of pizza and bloggers catching up since we’ve seen each other last. Then we were once again escorted into the screening room, given lots of candy and seated to watch the first two episodes of the second season of the cartoon – Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

The first episode started and I must say it was awesome right from the start. They style that they’ve done this cartoon in is extremely campy. It almost seems like an old Scooby-Doo episode or even an homage to the Adam West Batman! Once again I absolutely LOVED the theme song for this cartoon. Teletoon is spot on when they choose them. This one was totally rockin’ while also being campy in its own way. It completely went with the show.

Now back to the first episode, this one featured Batman (Of course) as well as Plastic Man and his faithful side-kick Woozy Winks! The dynamic between Plastic Man and Woozy was amazing, they played off each other perfectly! In this episode Plastic Man and Woozy completely idolize Batman (Okay mostly just Plastic Man) and I must say it causes some bumps in the road. Plastic Man thinks he is on the same level as Batman, which he is obviously not, and this gets him into trouble while taking Baby (Yes his child’s name is Baby) to the museum for ‘some culture’. I’d like to note that the first thing that popped into my mind was “Why is he taking his baby to the museum at night? This can’t end well…”

Of course, since we are dealing with Plastic Man, we also saw Rubberneck (I sense a rubber/plastic theme) and Kite Man. I must say, these two are hilarious. Kite Man is hilarious! He obsesses over and uses KITES to fulfill his evil plans! How much more bad ass can you get than that?! Now I’m not going to spoil the first episode for you guys, seeing as I want EVERYONE to watch it this Superfan Friday on Teletoon!

Now at this point I’m sure you’ve realized that I haven’t spoken all that much about Bats. Well that’s because, at least in my opinion, this show is more about the people who Batman works with than the great man himself. Hence the name, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, those around him are the ‘Brave and the Bold’. It’s almost as if Batman comes in to fix whatever it is that the other Superheroes have messed up. I thought this was quite an interesting way for them to go about this show, and I must say I like it. It lets us learn more about those surrounding Batman rather than focusing solely on him. Of course that doesn’t mean that there is NO Batman. There is indeed lots of Batman, it just seems that the stories don’t focus on him and he is just there watching making sure things end well.

Before the second episode started we were given a short about the Challengers of the Unknown. This short was hilarious and shown in such a way that leads me to believe that they will play one of these before almost every episode. This makes me happy because like I said the short was awesome. It was also one that ended with a ‘To be continued..’ which furthers my notion that they will play these shorts often. The Challengers of the Unknown are an awesome team and they too are just so damn campy! Of course Batman makes an appearance, but it’s almost like a cameo. A Batman Cameo! Amazing =D

Now the second episode was almost completely different than the first. Where the first was extremely comical and almost laid back, the second one was more tense and serious. The second one also took place in space! Yeah ya heard, SPACE! Of course this was completely ridiculous as Batman had his own spacesuit that he activated by one click of a button. But this is Batman we’re talking about here, he has everything! Now this episode focused on the Blue Beetle and his suit. It was rather interesting as it focused on his relationship to the suit and where it came from. Like I said before this episode was much more serious and most of which takes place on the Green Lantern planet of Oa. We get to see many of the Green Lantern Corps including good old Guy Gardner. Once again I don’t want to ruin anything but I will say that this episode seemed like more of a Justice League episode than a Batman one. But then again anything can happen in a superhero cartoon right?

Once again I must push everyone to watch the new season of Batman: Brave and the Bold this Friday on Teletoon. It is an awesome show and you will love the campy-ness of it all!

Oh and I almost forgot! They wonderful people at Teletoon gave us bloggers some toys relating to Batman: Brave and the Bold! Check out the toys below they are pretty freaking sweet. They are a team-up of The Joker and Bats, crazy idea and totally awesome to play with c;

Yeah I might have had a bit too much fun posing the toys… so what!? Yooooou love it c;
