The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

20 10 2010

Last night, Tuesday October 19th, I was fortunate enough to attend the preview screening of the first two episodes of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

I was actually invited to this event by an awesome person known as Sean Ward (Check him out on Twitter here, his site here, or his Vlog of the event here) and we actually ended up getting to the event early. Being the cool people that we are we started theorizing if we would be welcomed by people dressed up as the various Avengers, or maybe a huge cardboard cutout of Captain America! Sadly I must admit no such things welcomed us. However, we were welcomed by a lovely young lady named Heather who handles the social media aspect of Teletoon.

We were then taken to one of the Teletoon boardrooms where everybody was able to bond and much on some pizza that they got for us. Yeah that’s right we’re VIPs we get free pizza! It was pretty funny as everybody who came into the room was a blogger and we all bonded over that. While we were there, Sean introduced me to the awesome Alice Quinn of TdotComics! (Check out her site here and her Twitter page here)

After a bit of time in the boardroom with the awesome chairs, we were then taken to the screening room. That’s right people they have a screening room! It’s like those VIP movie theaters, nice and tiny with more awesome chairs. Not only that they gave us all mini chocolates to enjoy while watching. How much better can you get?

So the opening credits being to play and I must say, I really loved the soundtrack. Especially the song they chose as the theme song. I don’t know why but I loved it! I was rocking out every time it played.

Once the show actually starts we get tons of action which doesn’t seem to stop for the duration of the show. I thought that they did this extremely well. The action didn’t seem forced and it kept me enthralled the entire time. Now as usual I don’t want to ruin anything but the dynamic between the characters is actually fun to watch. The way that they had them banter back and forth was actually satisfying and interesting as opposed to being annoying. The relationships between each superhero was also quite interesting, they didn’t specifically talk about the relationship between Ant Man and the Wasp but it was evident that there was one. Which reminds me, Wasp has some of the BEST lines ever! She is the witty and hilarious one and I couldn’t help but love her. I also really enjoyed the way that they introduced Thor in the show. Without ruining anything I will say that he is an extremely awkward person and yet all he wants to do is protect Earth, which he awesomely refers to as Midgar. Being a Final Fantasy nerd this made me epically happy. While on the topic of the superheroes in the show, we actually didn’t yet meet Captain America. This intrigues me and really makes me want to keep watching to find out when he’ll be dug out of the ice!

I also really loved the way that they handled S.H.I.E.L.D. They were portrayed as more of a ‘bad guy’ than I expected or am used too. They are the direct reason that the Avengers need to team up in the first place, not that the team up is a bad thing but they do it purposely without S.H.I.E.L.D.’s help or support and almost in spite of them. In fact, they seem to not want to have ANYTHING to do with S.H.I.E.L.D. or Nick Fury.

Overall when the screening ended I was a huge fan of the show. I literally cannot wait to see more episodes! I think they did a fabulous job with this adaptation and I highly recommend it to anyone, superhero fan or not. The show airs this Friday at 8pm so check it out!

Teletoon has also aired 20 micro-episodes of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on their site. These micro-episodes are the events leading up to when The Avengers become an actual team so they have gotta be good! I haven’t had a chance to see them yet but I am going to watch them ASAP and I suggest you all do the same! You can find the micro-episodes by going to Teletoon.com, going to videos, and clicking on the Avengers sub-heading.

So after the event Sean, Alice and I did a bit of vlogging for Sean’s vlog and then decided to hang out for a bit in a nearby park. Yes we are just THAT cool. I must say these two are some of the coolest people I’ve met! Definitely worth checking out c;

Even after the park hangout Sean had to leave (boooo) but Alice and I kept the party going by hitting up The Friar and the Firkin. We had tons of fun drinking beers and talking shop. You can see the two of us bonding in the pics below. I know that this part is totally random but I had to include every part of the evening cause it was just awesome.

Make sure you check out both Alice’s and Sean’s coverage of the event! Both of which are hilarious and a must read/see!

As a comic book and cartoon nerd I can’t wait for something else I can schedule into my lazy weekend mornings – bring it on Teletoon!
